KATHMANDU: Today, Speaker Devraj Ghimire of the House of Representatives met with the chief whips and whips of major political parties to address the ongoing boycott of regular parliamentary sessions by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

The Speaker expressed serious concern over the continued disruptions, emphasizing that indefinite obstruction is not a sustainable solution.

He highlighted the absence of the fourth and fifth largest political parties and called on all sides—the government, ruling parties, main opposition, and other absent groups—to return to dialogue and work toward consensus.

Speaker Ghimire pledged to facilitate necessary arrangements and urged all members to make Parliament a platform for solutions rather than protests.

Shyam Ghimire of the Nepali Congress pointed out multiple unsuccessful attempts to reach an agreement and proposed temporarily suspending Parliament to foster a cooperative environment involving the RSP and RPP. He added that the Nepali Congress stands ready to support facilitation efforts.

Santosh Pariyar of the RSP stressed the importance of suspending sessions for two weeks during Shrawan, given the lack of key bills, to create a conducive atmosphere for consensus building.

Gyan Bahadur Shahi of the RPP requested the Speaker to urge the government to seek consensus, while Hitraj Pandey of the CPN (Maoist Center) recommended sending the Land Bill to a parliamentary committee instead of passing it in the full house until all parties reach agreement.

The meeting, attended by chief whips and whips including Shyam Ghimire of Nepali Congress, Hitraj Pande of CPN (Maoist Center), Santosh Pariyar of RSP, Gyan Bahadur Shahi of RPP, and UML’s Sunita Baral, agreed on a parliamentary calendar extending through 15th Shrawan (July 31), aiming to resume regular and collaborative parliamentary work.
