KATHMANDU: Leader of the Gen Z movement, Sudan Gurung, has publicly questioned Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal over the government’s handling of arrests related to activist statements, raising concerns about selective targeting.
Gurung pointed out that while Dr. Nicholous Bhusal was arrested for his remarks, Mahesh Basnet, who made similar statements, was not, suggesting favoritism toward powerful figures and a continuation of policies reminiscent of the previous Oli government.
In a detailed Facebook post, Gurung wrote, “Home Minister, what difference do you see between the statements of Nicholous Bhusal and Mahesh Basnet? Why was only Nicholas arrested? Has the government shifted to avoid touching the powerful, following the path of the Oli government? This statement was made out of frustration after repeated questioning in a closed room. It seems the movement is losing momentum.”
