KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Sumana Shrestha has criticized Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s aerial inspection of drought-hit Madhesh, saying flying over the region in a helicopter won’t solve the water crisis.

Speaking on Monday at the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee meeting while proposing amendments to the Land-Related Nepal Act Amendment Bill, Shrestha targeted the Prime Minister’s recent visit.

“Just because there’s a drought, flying over Madhesh in a helicopter won’t bring rain. The issue is also connected to the Chure hills,” she said.

Shrestha further emphasized that addressing such problems requires more than just election-time attention. “Let’s seriously look at the scarcity in Madhesh. This issue is connected. Thinking only from one election to the next won’t solve it,” she stated.

Prime Minister Oli had visited Madhesh on July 25 to inspect the drought situation firsthand.
