KATHMANDU: Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol has taken on the responsibilities of the acting mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City.

Following Mayor Balen Shah’s resignation, Sunita automatically assumed the role of acting mayor in accordance with the Local Government Operation Act, 2074.

Balen, who began his political career with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), resigned from the position of metropolitan mayor in order to contest the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5.

He submitted his resignation to Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol on Sunday.
