KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML ) has announced plans to increase its party membership to 750,000 by the time of its upcoming statute convention.
Declaring this year as the “Year of Internal Party Life,” Organization Department Secretary Madhav Dhungel stated that the party aims to raise its membership to 6 percent of the total national electorate by the convention.
He informed that instructions have already been issued to send updated membership details to provincial committees within the Nepali month of Baisakh (April–May).
We have directed the district committees to complete both new membership drives and renewals within Baisakh and submit them to the provincial committees,” said Dhungel. “Then the provincial committees are expected to submit the membership details to the central office by the first week of Jestha (mid-May).
According to Dhungel, the party currently has 550,000 registered members. “Our goal is to reach 750,000 members by the statute convention,” he added. The UML has scheduled its next statute convention for Bhadra 20 to 22 (September 5–7).
