KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has expressed its support for a two-point draft proposal introduced by the CPN (Maoist Centre) aimed at resolving the ongoing stalemate in Parliament.

The proposal was tabled during opposition meetings to find a common path forward.

Speaking to reporters outside the Federal Parliament in New Baneshwor on Wednesday, UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai confirmed that his party agrees with the Maoist Centre’s draft.

“We are on board with the Maoist Centre’s draft. However, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has reservations about it,” he said.

Bhattarai acknowledged that the RSP has presented an alternative draft which the UML does not support. Despite differences, opposition parties are continuing negotiations to arrive at a unified position.

The House impasse, ongoing since early June, centers on opposition demands for the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and the creation of a parliamentary committee to investigate alleged irregularities in the issuance of visit visas.

Due to continued disagreements, Wednesday’s House session was postponed. Bhattarai informed that the next session has been rescheduled for Thursday at 3 PM, giving parties additional time to reconcile their differences.

“The House cannot remain obstructed indefinitely. It must now enter into regular business,” Bhattarai emphasized, underlining the urgency to restore normal legislative functioning.
