KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula has advised Meghraj Pokharel to step back from the nomination process for Supreme Court justice.
Speaking during a parliamentary hearing, Bartaula raised concerns over Pokharel’s political background and his past association with business groups.
Bartaula argued that Pokharel, who once served as a bank board member, appeared more influenced by business interests than judicial values.
He questioned whether someone with such affiliations could ensure impartiality in the judiciary.
Referring to Pokharel’s past criticism of Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki, Bartaula also doubted his consistency and commitment.
“This is my personal suggestion—withdraw from the process,” said Bartaula.
Pokharel, in response, said he would give up political ties if approved as a judge.
