KATHMANDU: The CPN (UML) has completed all preparations for its National Congress.
It is all set to elect new leadership in accordance with the statute ratified by the second Statute Convention that had taken place on September 5-7 in Godawari, Lalitpur.
Today’s Secretariat meeting recognized the supreme authority of the second Statute Convention reasoning that it had decided a 15-member executive committee and a 251-member central committee, according to Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali.
He added unlike the past practice, the entire current secretariat (19 members) will serve as the presidium during the closing session of the National Congress. The meeting also nominated 108 member representatives, which will be five percent of the elected and ex-officio representatives (2,154).
The list will be made public on December 13. The meeting formed a committee, with Deputy General Secretary Gyawali as coordinator and Deputy General Secretary Prithvi Subba Gurung as minute-taker, for the special proposals to be passed at the National Congress.
Gyawali further informed that the secretariat expressed serious objection to the 10-point agreement recently made between the government and the representatives of the Gen-Z. It was against the government’s mandate and the constitution, he argued.
