KATHMANDU: The Politburo meeting of the CPN-UML has commenced at the party headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur, under the chairmanship of party Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, according to UML publicity department chief Rajendra Gautam.
Today’s session is scheduled to hear remaining Politburo members’ views on the statute amendment proposal presented by Vice Chairman Bishnu Prasad Paudel.
On Friday, seven members had expressed their views on the proposal. The proposed amendments suggest removing the age limit of 70 years and the two-term restriction currently stated in Article 64 of the party statute (amended in 2021).
The new draft also proposes that the party retain three structural tiers: Central Committee (251 members), Politburo, and Standing Committee.
According to Gautam, it has also been proposed that the number of office bearers be equated with members of the Standing Committee, replacing the current provision where office bearers are considered Secretariat members.
The meeting, focused on preparations for the party’s upcoming Statute Convention, is scheduled to conclude today itself.
UML’s Statute Convention is set to be held from Bhadra 20 to 22 (September 5–7) at the Sunrise International Convention Center in Godawari, Lalitpur.
