UML Secretariat endorses proposal to scrap age and term limits

KATHMANDU: The Secretariat meeting of the CPN-UML held Thursday at the party headquarters in Chyasal has endorsed a proposal to amend the party statute, removing the existing 70-year age limit and two-term cap for leadership positions.

According to Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, the party has decided to present this proposal at the upcoming Statute General Convention.

The proposal includes removing both the maximum age limit and term restriction for leadership roles within the party.

The meeting also decided to propose a 251-member Central Committee and 15 office-bearers, which will be tabled at Friday’s Politburo meeting.

The meeting additionally discussed the role of former President Bidya Devi Bhandari and reviewed the government’s performance over the past year.

A separate meeting will be convened to further deliberate Bhandari’s future responsibilities.
