KATHMANDU: Shankar Pokhrel, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), has accused external geopolitical forces of destabilizing Nepal and claimed that the country has been used as a “laboratory” for deep-state interventions aimed at weakening legitimate authority.
Speaking on the importance of engaging the nation’s youth, Pokhrel said Nepali politics has so far failed to fully earn the confidence of young citizens or align with their aspirations. He emphasized, however, that these challenges do not threaten Nepal’s commitment to pluralism, inclusivity, democratic republicanism, sovereignty, and national pride.
Pokhrel reaffirmed the UML’s dedication to building decisive national power and promoting a form of socialism rooted in Nepali values.
He added that the country will ultimately return to a sovereign democratic path, regaining the trust and support of the younger generation.
