KATHMANDU: The CPN (Unified Socialist) has come out strongly in defense of its party chair, Madhav Kumar Nepal, following a corruption case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).
The charges pertain to illegal land transactions involving Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal in Kavrepalanchok district.
After a high-level meeting at the party’s central office in Aloknagar, senior leaders concluded that Nepal committed no wrongdoing during his tenure as prime minister. They dismissed the charges as politically driven and baseless.
Party spokesperson Prakash Jwala said, “Madhav Nepal has never been involved in any act of corruption. His image is spotless. This case has been filed with prejudice and vengeance.”
Jwala announced that the party would fight the case both legally and politically. “We will fight this in court and are confident that the judiciary will give him a clean chit. This case will not stand,” he asserted.
Calling for internal unity, Jwala urged party members not to be swayed by the charges. “This will not weaken our party. We will continue to move forward with the same energy. We have already consulted with legal experts, and we believe this case will collapse in court,” he added.
The CIAA has filed charges against Madhav Kumar Nepal and 92 others for allegedly facilitating illegal land transactions in favor of Patanjali Yogpeeth Nepal, a company led by Indian nationals Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna.
