KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives failed to conduct its business on Thursday, as opposition lawmakers continued their protest demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak over the unfolding visit visa scandal.

The meeting, originally scheduled for 1 PM, was postponed to 5:30 PM in hopes of easing tensions. However, the session was once again disrupted, forcing Speaker Devraj Ghimire to call it off.

Ghimire announced that the House would reconvene at 1 PM on Friday. As the meeting began, opposition MPs rose from their seats and began chanting slogans.

Speaker Ghimire attempted to restore order by offering speaking time to parties on a rotational basis, but the protest showed no sign of abating.

Opposition parties have insisted that Minister Lekhak must step down, arguing that he bears moral responsibility for the visa-related scandal involving alleged irregularities in immigration processes.

However, the ruling coalition, comprising the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, has backed Lekhak, stating he deserves a chance to clarify his position before Parliament.
