Voters from Chhangru, Tinkar to vote from Khalanga

DARCHULA: Voters from Chhangru and Tinkar, the parts of Vyans Rural Municipality–1 in Darchula will cast their votes in Khalanga in the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections scheduled for March 5.

Chief District Officer Anil Paudel said residents of both villages have temporarily migrated to Khalanga, prompting the concerned authorities to establish polling centres within the district headquarters for them. During winter, locals move to Khalanga to escape the extreme cold in Chhangru and Tinkar. They stay here for six months.

In the local level elections held in 2079 BS (2022), polling stations had been set up in Chhangru and Tinkar.

District Election Office, Darchula, Election Officer Pradeep Singh Dhami said a polling centre for 375 voters from Chhangru will be at Kailashpati Basic School, while 244 voters from Tinkar will cast their votes at Motimahila Sangh Basic School.

In the 2022 local, province and HoR elections, there were 383 voters from Chhangru and 234 from Tinkar.

For the upcoming HoR elections on March 5, a total of 112 polling stations and 143 polling centres have been set up across the district.

According to the District Security Committee, Darchula, 22 polling centres have been categorized as highly sensitive, 41 as sensitive, and 78 as normal.

For this election, 2,166 new voters have been added compared to the previous election.

Election Officer Dhami said the total number of voters in the district now stands at 90,782, including 45,193 female and 47,755 male. Darchula has nine local levels.
