KATHMANDU: Chandra Kuber Khapung has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The Cabinet meeting held on Friday appointed the most senior Additional Inspector General (AIG), Khapung, as the Inspector General.

The current Inspector General of Police, Deepak Thapa, is retiring on September 3. As Thapa is going to retire due to the existing 30-year service period, the government appointed Khapung as IGP even before that.

Khapung is currently the chief of the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police.

Born in Tehrathum, Khapung had entered the service in the year 1996, as a Police Inspector.

If the 30-year service period remains, he will retire on the coming November 13.

Khapung had entered the service in the same recruitment batch as the current Inspector General Thapa, but he was recruited as an alternative candidate.
