PARSA: Local business owners in Birgunj Metropolitan City–10, Adarshnagar, attacked personnel of the Armed Police Force (APF) on Monday morning while authorities were seizing goods brought from India without paying customs duty.
The incident occurred around 9:45 am during an operation to recover customs-evaded clothing stored inside a shutter in the area.
According to Parsa District APF Chief Superintendent of Police Mohan Chhetri, locals resorted to stone-pelting and vandalism as the seized goods were being loaded onto a vehicle.
Chhetri said clothing worth around Rs 700,000 was recovered during the operation. He further added that APF personnel and Customs Office staff had reached the site based on information that smuggled goods were being stored there.
During the clash, wind-shields of two APF vehicles were shattered, and three APF personnel sustained injuries.
Chief District Officer of Parsa, Bhola Dahal, confirmed that a confrontation erupted between locals and security personnel during the seizure. He said a search is underway to identify and arrest those involved in the attack and vandalism.
