KATHMANDU: Nepal Police Headquarters has clarified that misleading reports about Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chandrakuber Khapung have been circulating in the media.
Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Binod Ghimire issued a statement on Friday, denying reports published or broadcast in newspapers and other media suggesting that IGP Khapung had threatened to resign.
The statement specifically refuted claims implying that Khapung said he would resign if pressure was applied to arrest former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
“The IGP has not made any statements suggesting such an intention. Security meetings and reports involving the Prime Minister and Home Minister focused solely on analyzing current events and security challenges arising from them,” the statement said. “All discussions were centered on maintaining peace and order in a cordial manner.”
The clarification comes after some media outlets recently published reports suggesting that during a meeting called by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Khapung had warned he would resign if pressured to arrest Oli and Lekhak.
