Over 2,000 police penalized, 3,700 complaints filed in FY 2024/25

KATHMANDU: In fiscal year 2024/25, a total of 2,073 Nepal Police personnel faced disciplinary action for various offenses, according to police spokesperson and DIG Binod Ghimire.

The majority of those penalized were lower-ranking officers, with 924 constables alone facing action.

Additionally, 420 assistant head constables, 345 head constables, and 173 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) were among those disciplined.

Higher-ranking officers also faced action, including 9 senior ASIs, 30 inspectors, 3 deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), and 1 senior superintendent of police (SSP).

During the same fiscal year, 3,753 complaints were filed against Nepal Police personnel through various channels.

These included the e-complaint system, CIAA, Ministry of Home Affairs, toll-free numbers, the IGP’s Secretariat, the Prime Minister’s Office, Hello Sarkar, the National Vigilance Centre, postal mail, and individual submissions.

Of these, the highest number—1,906 complaints—came via Hello Sarkar.

DIG Ghimire stated that 81 percent of the total complaints have been addressed, while around 700 are still under investigation.
