KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has prohibited the sale, distribution, and consumption of meat, alcohol, and other intoxicants in the Pashupatinath area during Maha Shivaratri 2081.
Chief District Officer Rishiram Tiwari issued the directive on Sunday to maintain discipline, order, and religious sanctity in the sacred site. The ban, effective from Falgun 12 to Falgun 15, 2081, restricts production, transportation, storage, and consumption of such items under the Local Administration Act, 2028.
Violators will face legal action, the notice warned. The restricted zone includes areas from Gaushala-Mitra Park Road in the east, Pashupati’s eastern boundary in the west, Gaushala-Tilganga Ring Road in the north, and Mitra Park, Umakunda, Gaurighat, and Guhyeshwari in the south.
