KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, has denied recent claims suggesting that planned load shedding may return, labeling them as baseless rumors.
During an inspection of the Kalimati ‘No Light’ branch in Kuleshwor on Sunday evening, he assured that the electricity supply is stable and urged the public not to be misled by false information.
The minister reviewed ongoing issues related to electricity supply, including consumer grievances and technical faults reported in areas under the Kalimati branch.
He emphasized that the country’s current power generation is sufficient to meet demand, making load shedding unnecessary.
“Certain individuals or groups appear to be intentionally spreading false rumors. I appeal to everyone not to believe such misinformation,” he said.
Khadka acknowledged that while the electricity system faced major challenges in the past, the current situation has significantly improved. He added that any brief interruptions caused by weather events like storms or lightning are being addressed immediately.
Earlier in the day, the minister paid a surprise visit to the Load Dispatch Center in Syuchatar, where he observed the national power flow and received updates on technological systems and staffing.
While inspecting the center, he called on Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) staff to act responsibly and serve the public with accountability. He also warned that unverified information being circulated could cause unnecessary panic.
Minister Khadka reiterated that the government is committed to enhancing the electricity system, maintaining a steady supply, and strengthening the complaint-handling process to avoid any return to load shedding.
He was accompanied by Energy Secretary Suresh Acharya, NEA Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya, and other technical personnel during the inspections.
