MORANG: A two-day international Maithili Conference will begin on December 27 in Biratnagar, the capital of Koshi Province.

Around 100 representatives of the Maithili language from Nepal, India, and other countries will participate in the event, which aims to conserve and promote the Maithili language, literature, and Mithila culture and civilisation.

According to Praveen Narayan Chaudhary, chair of the organising Maithili Association, the conference will feature in-depth intellectual discussions, poets’ gatherings, cultural performances by the Mithila community, a book exhibition, an art exhibition, displays of Mithila cuisine, Vedic recitations, and presentations of traditional folk dances.

Emphasising that language is the foundation of human life, the organisers stated that communities must first become aware and proactive in protecting their language. “If a language survives, civilisation survives,” they said.

The conference will include 11 major thematic presentations and is expected to help connect nearly 100 million Maithili speakers across the world.
