Karuna Foundation Nepal honored for disability prevention and rehabilitation work

BIRATNAGAR: Karuna Foundation Nepal was honored at the ‘36th Kalyanmani Acharya Dixit Memorial Ceremony’ for its outstanding work in disability prevention and rehabilitation.

The foundation operates programs across 137 municipalities in Koshi Province, reaching 78,541 persons with disabilities through local organizations and community groups.

The initiative provides healthcare, education, livelihood support, social integration, and empowerment services.

Over 75,785 persons have received identity cards, while 150 individuals gained employment through the program.
In addition, the foundation has supported 100,000+ couples and newborns in preventing birth defects, identifying 400+ children with congenital disabilities and providing treatment for 300+ cases.

The program’s model, combining municipal branches, trained facilitators, and community-based rehabilitation, has become a social development benchmark in Koshi Province and is expanding nationally. Internationally, it serves as a model in Congo, Tanzania, and Kenya.
