BANKE: A woman has died after being struck by lightning in Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality of Banke district today.

The incident occurred in Ward No. 4, Lalpur, where the woman was struck by lightning. Two other women were injured in the incident. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Sita Tharu, a resident of Urhari, Ward No. 11 of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, who was visiting her maternal home. The lightning struck while they were planting rice in the field.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Deepak Paatali of the District Police Office, Banke, informed that Tharu was rendered unconscious by the strike and died on the way to Bheri Hospital for treatment.

According to police, 15-year-old Garima Tharu and 24-year-old Nirmala Tharu of Lalpur, Rapti Sonari–4, were injured by the lightning. Both are currently undergoing treatment at Bheri Hospital in Nepalgunj.
