KATHMANDU: Maya Rai, a Nepali Congress lawmaker, has been charged in connection with the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative fraud case in Kalimati.
The Kathmandu District Police Range’s investigation report led to the District Government Attorney’s Office in Babarmahal filing the case at the Kathmandu District Court.
Rai, along with other individuals, has been named as defendants in the case, which is registered under a supplementary prosecution on charges of cooperative fraud.
This comes after previous charges were filed against leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, including its president and former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, in connection with the same fraud.
Rai was arrested on the night of 13th Baishakh (April 26) from her residence in Kapan. She had been absconding in connection with the Swarnalaxmi Cooperative scam.
Rai, a proportional representative MP, hails from Bhojpur.
