KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has imposed a ban on the consumption, sale, and distribution of meat, alcohol, and other intoxicants in and around the Pashupatinath area during Shivaratri.

To ensure the Mahashivaratri festival 2025 is celebrated in a disciplined, dignified, and organized manner, Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer, Rishi Ram Tiwari, has issued a notice prohibiting the production, sale, transportation, storage, and consumption of meat, alcohol, and intoxicants.

The notice also warns that legal action will be taken against anyone who violates this directive.

The notice reads, “To celebrate the Mahashivaratri festival 2025 in an organized, dignified, and grand manner while maintaining security in the sacred Pashupatinath area, and preserving religious and cultural dignity, the production, sale, transport, storage, and consumption of meat, alcohol, and intoxicants will not be allowed.”

The designated four forts include: Gaushala Mitra Park Road to the west, the eastern border of the Pashupati area to the west, Gaushala-Tilganga Ring Road to the south, and Mitra Park, Umakunda, Gaurighat to Guhyeshwori and all areas to the north.
