Ramechhap accident: Death toll rises to two, critically injured airlifted to Kathmandu

RAMECHHAP: One more person died in the road accident at Deurali of Ramechhap Municipality-2 in Ramechhap district taking the death toll to two.

A mini truck, which was carrying election materials and staffers for the upcoming March 5 elections to the House of Representatives, met with the accident on Monday afternoon resulting in one fatality and seven injuries. One person died on the spot while another among injured one succumbed to injury during treatment.

According to the District Police Office, Ramechhap, the vehicle with the registration number Na 4 Kha 6768 veered off the road and plunged approximately 200 metres down.

Rajan Prasad Timilsina, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Ramechhap, said the vehicle was transporting election materials, security personnel and election officers for three polling stations. After delivering materials at the Deurali polling centre, it was en route to two other polling stations when the accident occurred, he added.

The deceased have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector RP Yadav, and Dor Prasad Ghimire, a teacher at Rudrachheshwor Secondary School, according to Keshav Singh Dhami, the Medical Superintendent at Manthali Hospital. Ghimire breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Manthali Hospital.

Both were members of the election team assigned to the polling centre at Sanghutar ward office ‘Kha’ in the district.

Likewise, six others injured have been identified as Sabbar Bahadur Manandhar, 47, and Bhim Bahadur Manandhar of Khandadevi Rural Municipality-4 and Sabina Khadka, 28, of Ramechhap Rural Municipality-2.

Similarly, Kedar Kumar Roka, 47, of Manthali Municipality-3, Krishna Prasad Ghimire, a local resident of Lalbandi Municipality in Sarlahi district and currently a teacher in Bhimeshwor Prasun Kandel Secondary School were also hurt in the incident.

Durga Kakri, 25, whose permanent address is yet to be identified, also sustained injuries in the accident.

The injured were airlifted to Kathmandu in a Nepali Army helicopter for further treatment, police said.
