Singer and composer Ganesh Rasik passes away at 78

KATHMANDU: Veteran singer, composer, and literary figure Ganesh Rasik passed away on Sunday at the age of 78 while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at Nepal Cancer Hospital in Hattiban.

He had been battling the illness for the past five years. His final rites will be performed after his only daughter returns from the UK.

Until then, his body is kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. Rasik began his musical journey nearly five decades ago with the group “Lekali” and went on to become a prominent figure in Nepali music, known for his lyrics and songs that captured the struggles and dreams of the Nepali people.

A prolific writer as well, he published over a dozen works including poetry, fiction, essays, and memoirs. Born in Bhojpur in 2004 B.S. (1947 A.D.), Rasik also held senior roles in key cultural institutions, including Ratna Recording Corporation, Cultural Corporation, Sajha Publications, and the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama.

His contributions to music, literature, and public service have left an enduring mark on Nepali culture.
