SUNSARI: A teenage girl was shot dead in Ghuski, Harinagar Rural Municipality-6, a border area in Sunsari district.
The incident occurred on Monday morning at Maharam Chowk, where 18-year-old Arshi Khatun was killed after being shot.
According to the victim’s father, 46-year-old Ghaffar Miya, Arshi was shot by her brother-in-law’s son, 29-year-old Azad Miya Jat, a resident of Ghurana, Patharghat Panchayat-16, India.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yograj Khatri of Sunsari District Police Office confirmed that Arshi died on the spot and that the shooter, Jat, has fled the scene.
As soon as the incident was reported, a police team led by Inspector Suresh Yadav from Ghuskihat Police Post was deployed, and further investigation is underway, said DSP Khatri.
Authorities are actively searching for the shooter. One unexploded bullet, compatible with a small firearm, was recovered from the crime scene.
The victim’s body has been sent to BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, for postmortem. Injury was observed on the left side of the victim’s head.
