MANANG: Three people have died of altitude sickness in different parts of Narpabhumi Rural Municipality, Manang district.
According to the District Administration Office, the victims were working as porters and guides for tourists in the high Himalayan region.
The deceased have been identified as 44-year-old Ram Bahadur Thapa of Tanahun, 49-year-old Samba Ghale of Kispang Rural Municipality-1, Nuwakot, and 48-year-old Dil Bahadur Gurung of Bhujung, Kwholasothar Rural Municipality-4, Lamjung.
Thapa, who worked as a trekking guide, had stayed overnight at Kerela Hotel in Narpabhumi-2 on Saturday. He was found dead there.
His body was airlifted to Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital by helicopter on Sunday morning.
Similarly, Dil Bahadur Gurung died of altitude sickness at Kangla Phedi in Narpabhumi-4 on Saturday.
Gurung, who had fainted while returning from an altitude of around 4,500 meters carrying tourists’ luggage, was rescued by a helicopter of Air Dynasty and sent to Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, for treatment.
The hospital confirmed that Gurung died during treatment.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Samba Ghale of Kispang-11, Nuwakot, also succumbed to altitude sickness at Yak Kharka, Narpabhumi-4, while returning after carrying tourists’ loads.
