SALYAN: Three people from Salyan have gone missing after a flood and landslide struck Chhenagad in the Eastern Baagar area of Rudraprayag district, Uttarakhand, India, last Friday.
The missing includes 49-year-old Sharad Aagri, his 24-year-old son Deepak Aagri from Kalagaun, Bangad Kupinde Municipality-6, and 69-year-old Bhim Bahadur Budha from Ward 5.
According to Ganesh BC, Ward Chairman of Bangad Kupinde Municipality-6, they had traveled to India on August 1 in search of employment.
“We received news of the missing through their family. The landslide, accompanied by ice, struck around 3–4 a.m., burying the settlement while they were asleep,” said Chairman BC.
At least eight people—four Nepalis and four Indians—have been confirmed missing in the landslide.
The identity of another Nepali from Jumla among the missing could not yet be confirmed.
Suresh Budha, son of missing Bhim Bahadur Budha, said rescue operations are facing difficulties due to the remote and rugged terrain of the village.
As there has been no contact for four days, the family has reportedly begun preparing for funeral rituals.
According to Indian media, the flood and landslide following continuous rainfall on the night of August 29 caused severe damage in Chhenagad village, Eastern Bagar, Rudraprayag district.
The landslide with ice on the morning of August 30 swept away more than 15 houses and shops in the area.
