RAUTAHAT: In Gaur Municipality–1, Kanupatti area of Rautahat district, the bodies of three girls who went missing after falling into a waterlogged pit have been recovered.

According to the Armed Police Force (APF), the three bodies were found on Monday morning.

The victims have been identified as 13-year-old Astha Kumari Baitha from Laxmipur, Rajdevi Municipality–8, 15-year-old Radhanikumari Yadav, and 15-year-old Mausami Kumari Baitha, APF Deputy Spokesperson Shailendra Thapa said.

The girls had gone out to cut grass in the morning when they went missing in the waterlogged pit.

“Due to continuous rainfall since October 3, the area had formed a large water-filled pit, where the girls drowned,” Thapa said.

Upon receiving information about the incident, a joint team of the Armed Police Force with rubber boats from the proposed Nepal border post in Gaur and the Nepal Police, with local assistance, recovered the bodies from the pit.

Other children who went to cut grass with them—15-year-old Muskan Kumari Ram, 13-year-old Muskan Kumari Baitha, 10-year-old Chandramukhi Ram, and 15-year-old Sunita Kumari Baitha—were safely rescued by locals.
