KATHMANDU: Three people were killed and seven others injured in separate incidents involving uprooted trees during a windstorm in Nawalparasi and Kailali, police said.
In West Nawalparasi, Mira Byambu, 30, and Durga Bahadur Pun, 40, both from Ward No. 7 of Sunwal Municipality, died when a tree fell on a roadside waiting shed where they had taken shelter from the rain.
The incident occurred Friday evening, according to Santosh Poudel, Chief of the Area Police Office in Sunwal. Three others were injured at the scene.
In Kailali, a teacher named Karna Bhandari died after being struck by a tree knocked down by strong winds, the District Police Office reported.
Meanwhile, in Kolhabi-3, Bara, local resident Sikendra Chaudhary was injured when a wind-felled tree hit a moving car.
The windstorm also caused widespread damage in districts including Sarlahi, where rooftops were torn off and fruit crops like mangoes and litchis were damaged.
Other affected areas include Kanchanpur, Chitwan, Udayapur, Siraha, and several neighboring districts, with varying levels of property and agricultural loss reported.
