KATHMANDU: Two construction workers died after a lift chain snapped at an under-construction building near Hitipokhari, Durbar Marg, on Monday evening.

The deceased have been identified as approximately 32-year-old Pradeshi Chaudhary from Kailali and around 22-year-old Bishal Chaudhary from Bardiya, according to Kathmandu District Police Chief SP Apil Raj Bohora.

The tragic incident occurred around 5 PM when the two workers were applying grease while standing inside a lift on the fourth floor of a nine-storey concrete building under construction by Potala Development Pvt. Ltd.

The lift chain reportedly broke, causing them to fall to their deaths.

Both victims were engaged in construction work at the same site. Their bodies have been taken to Bir Hospital for postmortem.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
