JANAKPUR: Two young sisters tragically drowned while bathing in a pond in Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City–16, Kapileshwar Bazaar Tol.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Barun Bahadur Singh of the District Police Office, the deceased have been identified as four-year-old Aarohi Kumari Raut and three-year-old Maithili Kumari Raut, both local residents.

The incident occurred while the sisters were bathing in the Bhaiya Pond earlier today.

Local resident Kailash Raut said the girls got trapped in the deeper section of the pond and could not be rescued in time.

Though they were rushed to the hospital, doctors pronounced them dead upon arrival.

The bodies have been sent to the Provincial Hospital in Janakpurdham for post-mortem examination.
