BENGALURU: A tragic incident marred the celebrations of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) historic win in the IPL 2025 final, where they defeated Punjab Kings to clinch their first-ever title.
At least 10 people lost their lives in a stampede that occurred during the victory parade held in Bengaluru.
The stampede took place near Chinnaswamy Stadium, where thousands of jubilant fans had gathered to celebrate RCB’s milestone victory.
According to eyewitnesses, the crowd swelled massively as supporters attempted to join the parade. The situation spiraled out of control as fans outside the stadium pushed to gain entry, creating a chaotic and uncontrollable scene.
Police sources confirmed that some individuals were trampled and crushed during the sudden rush, resulting in at least 10 fatalities.
Dozens more were injured, with several in critical condition, according to hospital sources.
Local authorities responded quickly with rescue operations at the scene, and the injured were transported to nearby hospitals.
The police have admitted to inadequate crowd-control arrangements and have launched an investigation into the incident.
RCB’s franchise management expressed deep sorrow over the incident, extending condolences to the families of the deceased.
In an official statement, RCB said, “It is heartbreaking that such an incident occurred during the celebration of our team’s victory. We stand with the bereaved families and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
