NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed that India will continue its strict campaign against terrorism and its support networks, marking one year since the 2025 India–Pakistan military escalation.

Speaking on the anniversary, Modi referred to the April 2025 Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 people, and said those responsible had been “appropriately responded to.” India had blamed Pakistan-linked groups for the attack, a charge Islamabad denied.

The incident led to a major diplomatic crisis and later military confrontation, including India’s “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, 2025, targeting alleged militant sites in Pakistan. The conflict saw air and drone strikes, artillery exchanges, and over 70 reported deaths.

The fighting ended in a ceasefire on May 10, which was first announced by then US President Donald Trump before being confirmed by both sides. India later maintained the agreement resulted from direct talks with Pakistan.

Modi praised the armed forces and stressed that India would not compromise on national security. He also reiterated India’s firm stance on terrorism and cross-border threats.

Despite the ceasefire, relations between the two countries remain tense due to ongoing disputes over Kashmir and security issues.
