ISLAMABAD: More than 70 militants have been killed in Pakistani airstrikes along the border with Afghanistan.
According to security sources, the operation targeted members of the banned militant outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The air raids were conducted in North and South Waziristan, based on credible intelligence reports indicating the presence of TTP operatives in the area.
Sources said several militants, including key commanders, were killed in the precision strikes.
Although a ceasefire remains in place with the TTP, the group has continued launching attacks in different parts of Pakistan.
On Friday, a vehicle-borne bomb explosion in North Waziristan killed one security personnel and injured several others.
Security officials said the militants had crossed from Afghanistan into Pakistan to carry out attacks within the past 48 hours.
The Pakistani security forces have warned of a strong response to any future acts of terrorism.
