ISLAMABAD: Widespread flooding continues to worsen across Pakistan as major rivers have reached “very high” to “exceptionally high” flood levels.
The ongoing floods have affected over 4.2 million people and have led to a rising death toll.
The Guddu Barrage on the Indus River is now in a “medium” flood, while Panjnad on the Chenab River recorded “very high” levels, with outflows nearing 490,000 cusecs.
Floodwaters at Panjnad are forecasted to peak at over 600,000 cusecs in the next 24 hours.
An “exceptionally high” flood also persists at Ganda Singh Wala on the Sutlej River.
More than 128,000 people have been relocated to safer areas in Sindh, while rescue teams in Punjab have evacuated over 364,000 citizens and nearly 487,000 livestock.
The flood-related death toll in Punjab has reached 50, including four people who drowned when a rescue boat capsized.
In addition to displacing millions, the floods have caused extensive urban flooding in cities like Gujrat and damaged road networks in districts like Sahiwal.
Authorities are actively engaged in relief efforts, setting up hundreds of relief and medical camps.
