KATHMANDU: Nepal’s U-16 cricket team has registered its third consecutive victory in the ongoing ACC Men’s U-16 East Zone Cup 2025 being held in Malaysia. In their third match on Sunday, Nepal thrashed Indonesia by a massive margin of 370 runs.
This is Nepal’s largest-ever victory in terms of runs in any one-day international tournament at any level. Even the senior national team has never achieved a win by such a huge margin in one-day internationals.
On Sunday, after losing the toss, Nepal was invited to bat first and scored a record total of 420 runs for the loss of just five wickets in the allotted 50 overs — the highest-ever one-day score by a Nepali youth team.
In fact, even Nepal’s senior men’s national team has not scored this high in any ODI. The current record for the senior side is 321 runs, which came against Scotland on June 8, 2025, during the ICC World Cup League 2 match played in Scotland.
In reply, Indonesia was bowled out for just 50 runs in 24.3 overs, completely succumbing to Nepal’s bowling attack. Only two Indonesian batters reached double figures. Opener Kavin Neeraj Chadha scored the highest with 15 runs, while Divit Nanda made 14. The rest of the lineup collapsed under pressure.
Nepali pacer Bipin Prasad Sharma led the bowling attack, taking six wickets in 7.3 overs, including two maidens, while conceding just 12 runs. Sugam Budhathoki and Shubham Khanal claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, Nepal’s batsmen put on a dominating performance. Opener Prasiddha Jaisi scored a brilliant 132 runs off 114 balls, including one six and 15 fours. He shared a 130-run partnership with fellow opener Parimargan Yadav, who contributed 71 runs off just 28 balls, smashing eight sixes and four fours.
Raunak Srivastava, batting at number four, added 88 runs from 71 balls with two sixes and eight boundaries. Joy Thapa, coming in at number six, made a quick 57 off 41 balls with seven boundaries. Shivansh Bajgain scored only 4 runs, while Sugam Budhathoki and Roshan Shahi remained not out on 39 and 10 runs respectively. Nepal also benefitted from 19 extra runs. Indonesia used nine different bowlers, but none proved effective. I Ketut Dharma Putra took two wickets.
Earlier in the tournament, Nepal had defeated Singapore by six wickets and Japan by nine wickets. Nepal will play its final group-stage match against Bhutan on July 1.
