KATHMANDU: An adventure half marathon is scheduled to be held at the Kanchenjunga base camp, organized by Sirijunga Rural Municipality of Taplejung.

The event is set to take place from April 26-28, 2025, during the Sirijunga Festival-2025.

The marathon will be held at the base camp of Mount Kanchenjunga, the world’s third-highest peak, at an altitude of 4,500 meters above sea level.

According to Dr. Chitra Mabo, Vice-Chair of Sirijunga Rural Municipality, cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers: Rs 208,586 for the winner, Rs 108,586 for the first runner-up, and Rs 85,586 for the second runner-up.

The competition will cover a 24-kilometer route starting from New Jhoreni and passing through various locations such as Kasturedanda, Jhandedanda, Sindure Waya, Tuplung, Dundudanda, Dhaun Chowk, Bhedi Chowk, and finishing at Machhewa.

In addition to the marathon, a mountain cycling event will also be organized.

The hosts aim to use this adventure event to study the effects of climate change in the mountainous region and to monitor the adventure trekking routes.
