KATHMANDU: Italy has reached the semi-finals of the Women’s Euro Cup by defeating Norway.
Cristiano Girelli’s two goals sent Italy into the last four of the Women’s Euro 2020. Italy will play the winner of England and Sweden for a place in the final next Tuesday.
The Italian team has not reached the last four of the Euros since losing to Germany in the final in 1997. 16th-seeded Norway and 13th-seeded Italy played to a goalless draw in the first half.
Italy took the lead with a goal by Girelli in the 5th minute of the second half. In the 66th minute, Hegerberg equalized for Norway. However, with a few minutes left in the game, Girelli scored the decisive goal to take the team to the semi-finals of the Euro Cup after 28 years.
She also became the top scorer at the Women’s Euro at the age of 35 years and 84 days. Juventus forward Girelli has scored 61 goals for her country.
