Nepal defeats India 3–0 in penalty shootout

KATHMANDU: Nepal secured a 3–0 victory against India in a friendly football match held at Paljor Stadium in Sikkim.

Both teams were tied 1–1 at the end of the first half, and neither could score in the second half.

 With the match level at full time, the outcome was decided through a penalty shootout, where Nepal emerged victorious.

Goalkeeper Usha Nath guarded Nepal’s post during the regulation 90 minutes.

For the penalty shootout, coach Nabin Neupane substituted Anjana Rana Magar, who became the match hero by saving two of India’s penalties.

For Nepal, Sabita Rana Magar, Rashmikumari Ghising, and Nisha Thokar successfully converted their penalties, while Anita Basnet missed her attempt.

Nisha Thokar’s fourth penalty sealed the win for Nepal.

India’s Priyadarshini, Santosh, and Ashtam Oram took their penalties, all of which were saved by Anjana.

Earlier in the match, India had taken the lead in the 30th minute through Soumya Guguloth, but Nepal equalized in first-half stoppage time with a goal from Rashmikumari Singh.

Nepal had also defeated India 2–1 in the previous tri-nation series, continuing their strong form against their South Asian rivals.
