KATHMANDU: Nepal, which has already qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup through the ongoing East Asia Pacific Qualifier in Oman, will play its final Super Six match against Samoa today for the championship title.

Having booked its place in next year’s T20 World Cup to be held in India and Sri Lanka two matches earlier, Nepal now stands on the verge of winning the qualifier trophy.

Nepal’s title hopes strengthened after a 38-run victory over strong contender Oman on Wednesday night.

With 8 points, Nepal currently tops the Super Six table. The UAE and Oman are in second and third positions with 6 points each.

The UAE has completed all its matches, while Oman will play its final game against Japan later today.

Following a thrilling one-run win over the UAE, Nepal celebrated another milestone.

If Nepal defeats Samoa on Friday, it will remain unbeaten and lift the qualifier trophy for the first time.

From the Super Six stage, Nepal, Oman, and the UAE have already secured their berths in the T20 World Cup. Japan, Qatar, and Samoa, however, have been eliminated.

Today’s match is effectively a final for Nepal. The team leads the table with 8 points, while Samoa sits at the bottom with no points.

Nepal’s captain, Rohit Paudel, who described the victory over Oman as the fulfillment of the team’s World Cup dream, said their next goal is to claim the championship title.

Nepal, which has qualified for the T20 World Cup for the third time, will play Samoa at Oman’s ground on Friday at 4:15 PM (Nepal time) for the qualifier title.
