KATHMANDU: Nepal is batting first in the opening tournament against Thailand under the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier, 2026 hosted by Nepal for the first time.

At the Tribhuvan International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Thailand won the toss and chose to bowl first, inviting Nepal to bat first.

It may be noted that the Nepali women’s team has reached the global qualifiers for the first time after the Asia qualifier.

The next target is to play in the Women’s World Cup. However, it will not be easy for Nepal to beat Thailand. Thailand is a stronger team than Nepal and has already played the Women’s T20 World Cup.

In Group B of the tournament, Nepal will play alongside Thailand, the Netherlands, Zimbabwe and Scotland.

If the Nepali team finishes in the top three in the group stage, it will advance to the Super Six round, after which it must finish in the top four. The top four teams will qualify for the World Cup.
