KATHMANDU: Nepal wrapped up its warm-up campaign ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup Asia-Pacific Regional Qualifier Final with a flawless record, winning both preparatory matches.
In the second warm-up held on Monday, Nepal registered a 16-run victory over Qatar, following an earlier six-wicket win against hosts Oman.
Batting first after winning the toss at Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Nepal posted a total of 170 runs for the loss of seven wickets.
Opener Kushal Bhurtel top-scored with an impressive 56 runs off 33 balls, striking five fours and three sixes.
Kushal Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee each contributed 38 runs to help Nepal reach a strong total.
For Qatar, Shariq Munir and Ikramullah were the pick of the bowlers, claiming two wickets apiece.
In response, Qatar could manage only 154 runs for six wickets, falling short of the target by 16 runs.
Muhammad Tanveer played a valiant knock of 51 runs from 37 balls, including three boundaries and two sixes, while Muhammad Brieg and Muhammad Aseem added 40 and 30 runs respectively.
Nepal’s Karan KC starred with the ball, taking three wickets, while Nandan Yadav, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi bagged one wicket each.
With these wins, Nepal heads confidently into the Asia-Pacific Regional Qualifier Final.
Along with Oman and Papua New Guinea, Nepal had already secured direct qualification, bypassing the sub-regional stage.
These three teams will now compete with UAE, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Samoa, and Qatar in the regional final.
The nine participating teams are divided into three groups — Group A features UAE, Malaysia, and Qatar; Group B includes Nepal, Japan, and Kuwait; while Group C consists of Oman, Papua New Guinea, and Samoa.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super Six round, which will be played in a round-robin format.
The top three teams emerging from the Super Six will earn qualification for the ICC T20 World Cup.
