KATHMANDU: Nepal’s losing streak in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers continued after a 1–0 defeat against hosts Vietnam in the second leg match held at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday night.
Nepal had previously lost 3–1 to the same team in the first leg.
Despite showing improvement in their overall play, Nepal could not avoid another loss.
The only goal of the match came in the 5th minute when Nepali defender Suman Shrestha inadvertently scored an own goal, which proved decisive. Neither side managed to score afterward.
With this result, Nepal has now lost all four of its matches and remains at the bottom of Group ‘F’ without any points.
Vietnam, on the other hand, has collected nine points from three wins and one loss, securing the second position in the group.
Malaysia tops the group with a perfect record of four wins from four matches, earning 12 points, while Laos sits third with three points.
