KATHMANDU: Nepal will take on Bangladesh today in its third match of the ongoing SAFF U-17 Women’s Championship in Bhutan.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 6:45 PM Nepali time at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu. Both Nepal and Bangladesh have played two matches each so far, recording one win and one defeat.

Nepal endured a heavy 7-0 loss against India in its opening match but managed to bounce back strongly with a 2-1 victory over host Bhutan.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, began its campaign with a convincing 3-1 win over Bhutan before falling 2-0 to India.

In recent years, Bangladesh has emerged as one of the most consistent performers in women’s football across various age categories.

This steady improvement makes the match a tough challenge for Nepal, which will need to deliver a strong performance to keep its championship hopes alive.

The tournament features four teams—Nepal, India, Bangladesh, and Bhutan—competing in a double round-robin format.

The team with the highest points at the end of the competition on August 31 will be declared champion. Currently, India leads the table with six points from two matches.

Bangladesh sits second with three points thanks to a superior goal difference, while Nepal is third with the same number of points. Bhutan remains winless at the bottom of the table.

Alongside Nepal’s clash with Bangladesh, India will face Bhutan in today’s other fixture. The outcomes of both matches are expected to play a decisive role in shaping the title race.
