KATHMANDU: Nepal’s women’s football team has defeated India on their home ground.

In the match played on Monday, Nepal triumphed over India with a 2–1 victory.

Both goals for Nepal were scored by team captain Sabitra Bhandari, also known as Samba.

Sabitra netted the first goal for Nepal as early as the second minute of the match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong.

In the 22nd and 43rd minutes, Preeti Rai and Sabitra both had chances to extend the lead but failed to capitalize.

However, in the 63rd minute, Sabitra scored a brilliant second goal, doubling Nepal’s advantage.

India managed to pull one back in the 81st minute, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.

Iran has already been crowned champions of the tri-nation tournament, having defeated Nepal 3–0 and India 2–0 earlier.

Just a year ago, Nepal had also beaten India in Kathmandu during the SAFF Championship semifinals in a thrilling tiebreaker match.
