MUSTANG: The District Administration Office in Mustang has urged travelers to avoid trekking on five major high-altitude routes after heavy snowfall made conditions extremely dangerous.
Trekking has been prohibited on Saribung Pass, Mesokanto La Pass, Thorong La Pass, the Yak Kharka route linking Mustang and Dolpa, and Dhampus Peak on the Dhaulagiri circuit.
Authorities said deep snow has covered trails at elevations above 5,000 meters, with locals reporting accumulations of up to four feet. Rescue operations would be difficult if trekkers are stranded.
The administration has stored two months of essential supplies in safe shelters and advised travelers to check weather forecasts before travel.
