SUNSARI: Tourist visits to the Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve—famous for its unique deer species and rich birdlife—have risen notably this fiscal year.
According to conservation officer Bhupendra Saad Yadav, the reserve welcomed 8,415 domestic visitors, 66 tourists from SAARC countries, and 210 from other foreign nations between mid-July and mid-April. This marks a clear uptick compared to the same period last year.
The increase in tourism has contributed Rs 2.519 million in revenue, Yadav reported. Senior conservation officer Bhupendra Prasad Yadav added that the rise in footfall has been particularly noticeable since the onset of winter.
The reserve, which hosts 520 bird species, continues to draw visitors eager to see rare native deer, newborn rhinos, and migratory birds arriving from regions like Siberia.
To attract more visitors—particularly from neighboring India—the Koshi Province government has launched various tourism promotion efforts. Among them is a recently introduced sticker campaign near Bhantabari in Koshi Rural Municipality-8, designed to ease travel for Indian tourists and vehicles entering the province.
